Excuse me if I would sound like a high school girl here, but — oh my God! There’s already a film adaptation of Lionel Shriver’s We Need To Talk About Kevin!
I’ve been waiting for the movie version since I’ve read the book.
In the novel, you’d be able to read a series of letters written by Eva Katchadourian for her husband. The focus of these letters is her relationship with her son Kevin who committed a mass kill in school. In these letters the mother recounted her odd experiences with her son beginning with the moment Kevin was a toddler. Reading it, one can tell Kevin is not a “regular” child.
Although reading the novel is like reading an Oxford Dictionary, it’s a book one can enjoy because of the humor.
The perspective of the book is refreshing. Unlike typical movies and books that are told from the eyes of those related to the victim, in We Need To Talk About Kevin the mother of the suspect is the narrator, letting us look at another angle of a gruesome event.
Ezra Miller, the guy who played as Kevin surprised me. Judging the trailer, he did justice to his character. One thing’s off though; when he tries to give an evil-look, the effect is not evilish. He just looks so sexy. The Kevin I imagined was a bit fat and anything but handsome.

Here’s the trailer. I wish this would be screened in the Philippines.
Interesting. I wonder how they’ll handle the shock ending…
That plot twist was very unexpected.
On the contrary, I imagined Kevin from the book as quite good-looking. The perception of evil people as being ugly is a pretty common cliche, and I feel like it’s another one Shriver would have chosen to combat in her book- which was really about the nature/nurture philosophy and how people think. Also, the way Eva described her son’s sharp hipbones as visible beneath his tiny shirt- and the way girls admired them- leaves very little to the reader’s imagination.
Even Celia, his sister said shyly “Kevin’s really handsome”.
I already had this image of him who looks confident and who looks a bit good-looking for many, but not that handsome.
My friend and I were joking last time that if the one who’d kill us is Ezra Miller, we’d gladly offer ourselves and let him shoot us with an arrow.
Anyway, I’ve watched many shows with good-looking “evil” characters. I think it’s made that way so we can have at least a little sympathy for the character or so we won’t be totally disgusted because of him. (As to why I put quotation marks around the word evil, read Ezra Miller’s thought-provoking opinion about it.
ooooooooooh pahahhaa sorry random comment..;3
I wish there were a screening in my area, too. I want to talk about Kevin! That’s the kid from City Island and Afterschool, correct?
Yes, Google says so. I haven’t watched those two films yet though.
And it wasn’t screened here too. :(
Where are you from? I think it’s just showing in France and US.
